New Leaf – New Life was awarded a total of $8,500 from the United Way of Monroe County and the Community Foundation of Bloomington & Monroe County through the United Way COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund and a Community Foundation Rapid Response Grant. These grants help us accomplish our mission during this unique time, and we are so grateful!
As a preventive measure against COVID-19, programs that New Leaf New Life facilitates in the jail will not continue until further notice so we are transitioning to provide services through in-house mail This comes following a number of decisions to close or reduce public services that support those most disenfranchised among us.
Today we want to lay out the specific needs we have as an organization serving incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals–people whose barriers to safety are already high including access to income, housing, sanitation and food.
New Leaf – New Life partnered with Indiana Legal Services and the Maurer School of Law at IU to offer the Bloomington Expungement Desk to former inmates starting in January, 2020. Although the Expungement Desk is currently suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, services will restart soon with bi-weekly support for clearing criminal records.
